There's range yes, there's also the upgrade paths. Claymore can go Crushing and Blessed but flamberge cant. Flamberge can go Sharp and Crescent but Claymore cant. The damage from a Sharp Flamberge is mediocre when compared to that of a Crushing Claymore, massive difference when 2h and cursed. The Claymore is a Large Sword in Demon's Souls.
